From BusRouteDiscussion.
IMHO EmacsWiki is ready to be linked into the SOFTWARE-DEVELOPER-TOUR.
I assume that there are no reasons against putting it in.

- after SleeplessNightWiki

I would link it in 48 hours from now (about Jul 16, 2002 22:00 CET) at a consensus position. -- HelmutLeitner
This textline was removed from Bus #42 [on TourBusMap]:
- PythonInfo (python.org) ..... PythonInfo:TourBusStop
Reasons:
- not synchronized with the actual route
- not discussed on TourDiscussion
And:
- there is no information about the wiki or its host
- it is unclear who put it in
- it is unclear why it is not put in near the 2 other Python wikis
- it is not visible that its position has been negotiated
The LugKr Wiki likes to join the GERMAN-COMMUNITY-TOUR.
There is a thematic neighbourhood and some Interwiki-Links to LinuxWiki. So we would like to enter the Bus Nr. 03 between LinuxWiki and PythonWiki. We invite german speaking wiki tourists to have a look at our nail-new (but still unused) busterminal at http://lug-kr.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/lugwiki.pl?TourBusHaltestelle Please can the BusDriver(s) give a comment on this and link the pages together (or shall I do it?) -- ThomasBayen
Please agree to wait for a 48 hour period, so that everybody interested may read this and contribute. I support your suggestion. If there is no veto (opposition, alternative suggestions) I would link you early after Jul 17, 16:00 CET. -- hl
[Jul 16, 00:50 CET] The INTERNATIONAL-WIKI-TOUR is roughly assembled (it is not yet linked).
All English wikis of the GWCT are in the tour alternating with the new wikis. MoinMoin is also in the tour (currently only reachable via DseWiki -> GERMAN-COMMUNITY-TOUR -> PythonWiki -> MOINMOIN-WIKI-TOUR -> MoinMoin).
IMHO IaWiki could join anytime it solves its Netscape problem.
Are there objections to the route?
Otherwise I will link it and put it up soon after Jul 17, 24:00 CET. -- hl

If there are no vetos, I'll put it on the the IWT at the majority position about [Jul 20, 2002 20:00 CET] -- HelmutLeitner
I think putting BookShelved after WhyClublet is the best idea. Anywhere else is fine by me too. --StephenGilbert
...route length... #66 is meant to be a long, winding tour for passengers who have time. The typical tour will contain perhaps 8-16 wikis, but #66 may IMHO grow to 20-40, maybe even more. -- hl
...other thoughts... The typical wiki might be put on 2-4 tours: e. g. BookShelved on IWT (English, general), e. g. WIKI-FRESHMEN-TOUR (it's young), KNOWLEDGE-X-Y and HUMANITIES-X-Y (for its topics). If there a few similar wikis on the IWT, they could form a tour of their own (maybe only the largest remaining on IWT if IWT is on the upper limit). Other languages will grow a similar structure (the GERMAN-COMMUNITY-TOUR serves the same purpose as IWT+SDW combined and might be splitted when large enough). When a tour and a wiki community grows large enough on IWT it may be linked to the GWT. IMHO the GWT serves as the backbone for the wiki world. -- hl
Has anyone noticed that IWT covers the same stops as GWCT, but takes them in reverse order?
NvcWiki is back up. It's server crashed, and lost basically all pages (remember, backup!). Even before, it wasn't ready to be on a bus tour, but hopefully this all will help prompt me to get it going. As if i wasn't busy enough. CreationMatters has not been very active, but i'm perfectly happy to have it on any tour wanted. My intent is to have it under some kind of open license, although there has been no explicit copyright license page as yet. --JohnAbbe
John -- I think it is great to have the NvcWiki ready to go, but the newer or less active wikis are going to be slower to get moving, so I just threw up the frame work for the Bus Stop for now. What are your thoughts about putting AbbeNormal on a tour line? -- best, md
Happy to. Also, lacking objections to the WIKILOG tour proposal above, i will start inviting and making pages in early August or so. --JohnAbbe great!
Is the Bus Tour scheme actually still alive? UnrealWiki has been on the waiting list for well over a month now. -- Tarquin (yes, it's a nickname. Sue me, Sunir ;-)
Tarquin, the TourBus is still alive. It just cooled down a little (and I didn't mind). Sorry for the delay and thank you for your patience. -- HelmutLeitner

Moved from TourBusMap:
- Bus #104 - PETITWIKI-TOUR (Italian)
- drivers:
- current route:
- Inventa ..... [Inventa:TourBusStop]
I moved it, because the tour is hardly more than a suggestion. Even the single wiki on it doesn't have a working TBS page. The tour number should be changed, because 1xx is more or less reserved for wiki engine tours. Please look for at least 4 similar wikis. Also think about an Italian wiki tour. Please give the basic informations using WikisInNeedForBusConnections. -- HelmutLeitner
I'd like to petition that MeatballWiki be added to the WIKI-DEVELOPER-TOUR. -- SunirShah
Sunir, I've been waiting for a response of Clifford to start the WIKI-DEVELOPER-TOUR. I even offered to write the TourBusStop - no reaction. Are you in contact with him or would you write the UseMod TourBusStop? -- HelmutLeitner
Start it. I'll write it. -- SunirShah
checking for UseMod:TourBusStop
Ok. Then I suggest to start bus #2 this way:
MeatballWiki => DseWiki => MoinMoin = PhpWiki
and we can join the other wikis as soon as their TBS page is ready. I'll do it - if no-one objects - as soon as possible after Feb, 16 10:00 MEZ. -- HelmutLeitner
I have added the bus line #80 to the [[TourBusMap]] and my homewiki, [Wikipedia NL], to line nr.80. If there are objections please let my know. giskart AT wikipedia DOT be 13/02/2003

Please can we try running this in a Wiki Way? I added a bus stop to a tour a few weeks ago, without waiting weeks for management decisions, and everything was fine :-) -- in fact, about a week later, someone added another site in the chain. Of course, the maps are now out of sync .... ;-) but I thought we'd scripted that. We trust people enough to edit pages, I think we should apply the same principles to this. (tarquin of UnrealWiki ... but I never sign around here!)
Well, you've helped yourself. If there are no problems, fine. Don't try to establish this as a rule and - in case of problems - don't ask for help. The wiki way isn't about the right to edit pages, it is about collaboration, consensus and tolerance - if at all possible. You could introduce yourself and your wiki to do at least a step in that direction. -- HelmutLeitner

Tour #102 USEMOD-WIKI-TOUR can be erected with existing wikis from other tours. I only hesitated because I invited Cliff, but currently he seems to have a reduced his wiki engagement. Please comment on the suggested route. I thought it might be good to separate EmacsWiki and UnrealWiki.
Im open for any changes. If there are no vetos or major discussions, I'll put in on ASAP after [Okt 20, 2002 22:00 CET] By the way, I think that we can avoid a "waiting wiki tour" by installing tours for the major engines and a "wiki engine tour".
I disagree about avoiding a waiting wiki tour. My main idea is until it can be decided where wikis go, why not just instantly connect them? MarkDilley
It was just an idea that would also allow instant connection. But Tour #6 is well prepared, so when will you install it? -- HelmutLeitner
I think it is definately a good idea. If we can get them up and running, I think you are right, instantly connecting wikis to their respective engine tours might be the answer to quickly getting wikis up on tours. Since we don't have that currently, unless there are objections, I will put the Eclectic tour up on 10/7/2. . . MarkDilley (even if the line gets taken down after other lines are up, I am ok with that)
cool, I think that we need to think about people taking the tours, will they know what the tours are about. (do we say on each page, this is the UseMod wiki engine tour?) -- also bringing up a question for BusCentral again, me thinks, MarkDilley
I have created a Bus Stop for EsWikiPedia at es.wikipedia.org at http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:TourBusStop , in english. It would fit in an encyclopedia tour line, that appears to be in the works. What else should I do? It also has an iterlanguage conection to a Bus Stop in Spanish, that could be linked to a spanish bus route, if one is ever done.--AstroNomer
AstroNomer, EsWikiPedia can be part of the MWT (Bus #12), I had expected your participation (look at "potential participants"). I'm happy that you are willing to put EsWikiPedia as a connection wiki to the Spanish wiki world - that's perfect. Regarding the encyclopedia tour: I thought that StephenGilbert would organize it sooner or later, because the WikiPedia wikis are the backbone of this tour (but I never talked with him about this). -- HelmutLeitner
I'm afraid I'll have to pass. I really should "resign" from BusManagement, too. I like the TourBus idea, but the wild web of CategoryBus pages are too much for me. Good luck with it. Also, I'll keep the English WikiPedia Tour Bus Stop in my watchlist, and keep it safe from vandalism. -- StephenGilbert
I have created a Bus Stop for DaWikiPedia at da.wikipedia.org at http://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:TourBusStop , in english, and in danish at http://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Busholdepladsen , and linked them with each other. I think it would fit into the MULTILINGUAL-WIKI-TOUR and/or the planned encyclopedia tour. If I need to do anything else to get it included in a tour, then please let me know. -- ChristianList
Tank you. No, ther is nothing else to do (for both tours). Just put an e-mail address or a homepage link here in case I need to contact you. -- HelmutLeitner
Go to this address http://www.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Special:Emailuser&target=Christian and here you can send me an e-mail ! -- ChristianList
I see that the routes keeping up with the explosion of wikis round the world. MeatballWikiTour is a page that I am suggesting for MeatballWiki that would be a feature link from the TourBusStop page. The MeatballWikiTour would be an intra-wiki tour for non-English speaking visitors and would involve deployment of the Google translation tool.
MeatballWikiTour is based on a page that I added with the help of Rainer|Langenhan to the German-language JuraWiki which can be found at
http://jurawiki.de/JuraWikiTour
I am hopeful that we can get assistance to create segments on the MeatballWiki tour page for German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian tours of the JuraWiki site in addition to the English tour that is on the JuraWiki:JuraWikiTour page at the URL above.
Since Google does not do well translating pages with different languages, if a guest book is in order for "foreign" language visitors at a particular site, I would suggest one such page for each language where comments and observations could be left. JohnDeBruyn (July 31, 2003)
EmacsWiki is supposed to link to PythonWiki -- but that is a German wiki; is PythonWiki a MultilingualWiki? Other than that, cool to be linked! :) -- AlexSchroeder
You're right, this is a inconsistency and IMO we should take PythonWiki out of this Tour sooner or later. On the other hand it was the first connection to MoinMoin and to J?gens MOINMOIN-WIKI-TOUR, so I didn't want to do this before his other connections havn't improved (seems MoinMoin will be on #66 today) and the decision hasn't been prepared and discusses. -- hl

- GHOST-TOWN-TOUR
- potential participants: NuPedia Chalkboard, Basic English WikiPedia ...
- wikis that have no (or very occasional) traffic and do not respond to messages
- I have mixed feelings about this one, I think on one hand we want wikis to flourish (so I would not to put a wiki on this tour, even if it had very occasional traffic ''hey, can we add your wiki to the <b>GHOST-TOWN-TOUR</B> ;-), but on the other hand, they have not consented to be a part of the tour (the no traffic folks). -- md
- I'm hoping the tour would serve to revitalize some dying wikis (or wikis that never took off). Many of the other language Wikipedias fall into this category. On the other hand, there are things like the NuPedia Chalkboard, which was a failed experiment of the NuPedia project, that are just historically interesting.
- PRIVATE-WIKI-LABYRINTH
- potential participants:
- any bus stop should connect to 3-7 other private wikis. No route numbers are used.
- PRIVATE WIKI means: - This hasn't been discussed until now. I also think, they should be at least readable by the public. -- HelmutLeitner
- I agree, they have to be public in the content sense, as they will not be editable. But, what about a single stop for totally private wikis. Like my TradeUnion's Wiki. I think it would be cool to see who is using them privately. -- MarkDilley
- So this is the description i'm starting to hear: wikis that are readable but not editable by the public; and totally private wikis that have one public bus stop, to let people know what they're up to. Is that it? --JohnAbbe
- should we separate these into READ ONLY (Corporate) WIKI TOUR and PRIVATE WIKI TOUR - these tours would be actual tours, as WikiNature is kept at bay. (althought the READ ONLY would be access to an actual wiki, while the PRIVATE wiki tour would be x pages and that is it.)
- PERSONAL-WIKI-LABYRINTH
- any bus stop should connect to ~~3-7 other personal wikis. No route numbers are used.

Discussion
We already have WikiPedia and KnowHowWiki as candidates - is there possibly enough meat for a KNOWLEDGE-GATHERING-TOUR out there? (Perhaps the IaWiki could be a connection point.)-- ip
I think WikiPedia is planning a tour for its wikis. Look at their TBS. I hope that Stephen will design it as an open tour (ENCYCLOPEDIA-TOUR) that other similar projects may join. -- hl
I believe Kurt started the planning the multi-lingual WikiPedia tour, but I'm not sure. I'm all for a general encyclopedia/wiki tour as opposed to a WikiPedia-specific one, especially since the Spanish Wikipedia forked and is now not under the name "WikiPedia". --StephenGilbert
Isn't ENCYCLOPEDIA-TOUR a too specific name? I don't think that it matches the intent of the KnowHowWiki very well, for example... -- ip
I was thinking of an OPEN-CONTENT-TOUR myself. KnowHowWiki is under the GNU FDL, isn't it Seb? --StephenGilbert
Yes it is. I think OPEN-CONTENT-TOUR is a mightily good idea. Adding SimpleScienceWiki would make three. Anyone know other explicitly GFDL/public domain wikis? --SebPaquet
would the math wiki http://www.mathcircle.org/cgi-bin/mathwiki.pl?RecentChanges; the SquirelMail project http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/; openwiki http://openwiki.com/ow.asp?OpenWiki -- fit into this category? -- md
French tours
Currently more than 100 wikis in [WikiIndex:CategoryFrench] are in French, currently about 107 . Think it could make sense to begin a LangueFrançaise Tour ? As for numbering, I'd suggest 24 (for a small "balade", a LangueFrançaise Petit Tour) if there's no objection ? -- ChristopheDucamp
Literary tour?
I suggest a Literary tour: TolkienWiki, BookShelved, YesterdayYesterday... any others out there?
As for numbering your tour, #1xx is generally reserved for wiki engines, but pick any number that you think would be a good number for the tour! Best, MarkDilley

I'd like to add the [VeganWiki] to the GERMAN-COMMUNITY-TOUR after GründerWiki. Please add your suggestions or questions. I'll act according to the majority as soon as possible after "end time". -- [Tim]
Tim, an alternative place to put VeganWiki might be after CoForum. I think both wikis are near each other in sharing this "alternative" feeling. -- HelmutLeitner
I also thought about that. I'd agree to that, no question, but perhaps it even would be better to somehow "break" the computer-orientated agglomeration on the route and invite people to join with more "life-orientated" topics. What do you think? -- Tim
I'd prefer to leave the decision to you. I just wanted to make sure that you didn't chose the tail position because of politeness alone and offer an alternative. -- HelmutLeitner
Okay... I'll pass that decision to our authors :) Best regards, -- Tim

How does this work?
As far as I can see there are very few wikis on the very few bus routes that have been implemented in TourBusMap. There are many uggestions on this page, yet most haven't yet made it trough. Why? Any reason why I shouldn't just add a new wiki to a route? Any reason why I shouldn't create a new route and choose some arbitrary route number? -- sgbailey@iee.org
There are different reasons why wikis have not been joined. Sometimes there was no fitting route, sometimes the wiki was just created and had neither a community nor interesting content (no reason for a stop), often there was no TourBusStop page created (lacking preparations), sometimes owners didn't come back to answer requests or to care. Do you want to tell us about your wiki project and yourself? It would help you to create a homepage here and let us know what you are doing. What route do you want to create? -- HelmutLeitner
Appears to me to be broken. I click on the link to its Busstop (route 66) from meatball and I get a "you do not have permission to access this page message." Can you fix it? -- sgbailey@iee.org
Thank you for the information. The only fix is to remove it. -- HelmutLeitner

I suggest to add PenguPedia to GERMAN-COMMUNITY-TOUR after Tuxfutter. [-- Tom Mettner] Okay "start time" was some time ago. Who sets "end time"? [-- Tom Mettner]
What about a MediaWiki tour? It would have WikiPedia, MemoryAlpha, TMBW, and HomestarRunnerWiki among others.
Sounds great! How about suggesting a route number and contacting/setting up BusStops. Would you be the driver? --Best, MarkDilley
I guess I'll do it. <strike>What about the curent MediaWiki version number for the route number? That would be 153 for version 1.5.3.</strike> --SeanFennel
I see now that the WikiEngine tours are just numbered sequentially. So, I'm changing it to 108. --SeanFennel

It'll go in once I poke around it enough to be able to decide where to put it in. --SeanFennel
How about between WikiPedia and MemoryAlpha? --SeanFennel
I'm going to hold off adding it in until the stop is finished (meaning it discusses WikiIndex instead of HomestarRunnerWiki). BTW, there's a way to change the main page to something other than the default "Main_Page" in MediaWiki. I'd have to look it up on MediaWikiMeta, but if you want to do it, I will. --SeanFennel
I'm going to put it in right there. Let me know if you'd rather have it somewhere else. --SeanFennel

- the MoinMoin Tour, after PythonWiki

I think in the German Community Tour, LinuxWiki and the wiki of the Linux User Group (Lug) should remain directly connected, hence OpenOfficeWiki should be inserted before LinuxWiki or after LugKr wiki. In the MoinMoin Tour, I would prefer to put the OpenOfficeWiki before, not after the PythonWiki, thus connecting it with the german JuraWiki, or to put it between LinuxWiki and JuraWiki, as OOo is very commonly used for academic work. (Or did you mean the german PythonWiki at the very end of the MoinMoin tour?) Thanks. -- MartinBayer
