Wikivoyage is a project to create a free, complete, up-to-date and reliable world-wide travel guide.

It was started in December 2006 by most admins and other dissatisfied users of the german speaking part of WikiTravel as a fork after Wikitravel was sold to ''Internet Brands''. Wikivoyage aims to be a non-commercial alternative to Wikitravel with transparent and democratic internal structures.
The project has more than 270 registered users. Like Wikitravel they use the CreativeCommons by-sa license, a CopyLeft license, to create an OpenContent travel guide. (Really, it's a set of guides.) Meanwhile over half of the articles in the database were born on Wikivoyage. The site runs the MediaWiki software created for/by WikiPedia.
In Dezember 2007 an italian language version was started.
